What is Silica?
Silicon is the second most prevalent mineral found in the earth's crust, in rocks such as quartz, obsidian, granite, diorite, and sandstone. Silica (silicon dioxide), a derivative, is found in plants, in such herbs as horsetail, and in high-fiber foods such as whole grains, rice, fruits 
and vegetables. It has been shown to be essential to human health, especially as we age. In the past, we were able to obtain sufficient silica from our foods to sustain good health, but modern refining methods have removed silica from our foods, making it harder to obtain. Because it occurs naturally in foods and in our bodies, silica is considered safe and nontoxic.
